Returned travellers are being warned to be on the lookout for symptoms of monkeypox after Australia’s first cases were discovered in Victoria and NSW.in Europe and North America and a further 65 cases are suspected., monkeypox is a potentially serious viral illness that usually begins with flu-like symptoms before progressing to become a rash or lesions.Monkeypox usually lasts from two to four weeks and people are infectious during the period of sickness.
“It is not the same spread mechanism as COVID or flu where [contact can be] more fleeting,” Dr Chant said.Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said people with smallpox vaccinations were typically protected. Vulnerable close contacts can also be given the smallpox vaccine as protection. Passengers who sat close to the man on two flights – EY10 from London to Abu Dhabi on May 14 and EY462 from Abu Dhabi to Melbourne on May 15 – are being requested to isolate. The NSW case is resting at home.
Both Dr Chant and Professor Sutton urged people with any unusual rashes or lesions to contact their sexual health clinic or GP.“A large proportion of the cases detected overseas are among gay, bisexual or men who have sex with men, and we’re particularly urging men who are gay, bisexual or men who have sex with men to be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions and to contact by phone the sexual health clinic or GP without delay if they have any concerns,” Dr Chant said.
Oh come on now........can you give it a bloody rest on this fear campaign, are you not sick of your own bullshit. Funny how all these virus's are on the rise since this magic jab.......just sayin!!!!
Please update headline. its warning for all not to a particular group of ppl. Although Dr Chant mentioned lgbt community have more chances but still we have to mindful. Thanks
