China's chief epidemiologist says people should also avoid contact with travellers who have been abroad recently, as well as 'strangers', after Chongqing recorded mainland China's first monkeypox infection.

People in China have been urged not to have "skin-to-skin" contact with strangers.abc.net.au/news/china-monkeypox-foreigners-skin-to-skin-contact/101454382A senior Chinese health official has advised people to avoid physical contact with foreigners to prevent possible monkeypox infection after the first known case of the virus on mainland China was reported on Friday.

"To prevent possible monkeypox infection and as part of our healthy lifestyle, it is recommended that … you do not have direct skin-to-skin contact with foreigners," Wu Zunyou, chief epidemiologist at the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention posted on his official Weibo page on Saturday. Mr Wu also called for people to avoid contact with people who had been abroad in the past three weeks, as well as all "strangers".

"It is necessary and very important to strengthen the surveillance and prevention of monkeypox epidemic at the social level," he wrote. His post was widely shared across social media over the weekend, but the comments section under his initial post were disabled on Sunday and in the early hours of Monday in Beijing. Some, who commented on forwarded or screenshot versions of his post, questioned why foreigners in China, many of whom are long-term residents and have not left recently due to COVID-19 barriers, were considered more dangerous than locals.

'Monkeypox case prompts warning for Chinese men to avoid 'skin-to-skin contact' with foreign men.' Fixed it.

Butt Pox 😂

No sucky suck round eye!!!!!

Didn't know they had gay people in China.

Avoid man on man

1 in 6 is Chinese, and given their current government most Chinese will never see a foreigner in person……think about it.

So the Chinese (laboratory creators) who gave the world COVID-19, now say to avoid foreigners?! How hypocritical, xenophobic and racist. F*ck China 🖕

Just when I thought the queen had gotten rid of this bs.....these clowns bring it back.

Imagine China was honest about covid at the start. Now millions are dead and the world economy destroyed. Question is why is the world silent in the origins. Really makes you realise it was likely a planned event.

Racists.

Facts maybe unfair unwanted & not pleasant, but they're still facts.

That sounds a *little* xenophobic but given it is China issuing the advice it will pass without controversy.
