Are businesses allowed to do this? 9News

I have a consumer question for you - at my local cafe they have a minimum spend for eftpos transactions of $10.

According to Australia's consumer watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, a minimum spend amount doesn't even necessarily have to apply to eftpos. "They don't have to offer a card payment option, but they need to comply with the excessive surcharging rules regardless of the cost of the product."

Obviously from a business perspective, the more stipulations you put on a customer the less likely you are to make a sale, but that's for the free market to decide.

Don't blame the business, go cast your eyes towards the banks that make the business do this because of fees. Alternatively they could just put their prices up, what would you like.

In a country where illegal refugees can get residency, what can't they do?

Tell that to the government

Why are pubs and clubs allowed to charge nearly $3.00 to access your own saving through EFTPOS?

Ppl still don't understand.. im always getting asked ' why doesn't cole or woolies have mini eftpos?'. Ask for a refund from the education department u dck head.

Yes. Either that or the transaction fee will be add to every product.. if the banks want us to be contactless, wave the fees for merchants.

I use the old Money talks. If I want a $4.50 late and the minimum transaction is $5 then I ask any exceptions. If the answers no then I say “ok thanks anyway I’ll go elsewhere”. If need be I’ll go without, I totally accept a surcharge on all transactions but don’t lock me in.

Half a story by a halfwit journalist. Fails to mention the transaction fees charged by banks

Where do you get cash these days when banks are closing branches or wanting to charge you a $2.50 fee for using their ATM?

Are VicPol allowed to shoot peaceful protesters in the back?

Probably comes down to bank fees?

When the banks have a monthly charge for the unit, then tack on a % charge for each purchase smaller business can potentially take a lose on a small purchase

No because if you can't run a business it's your own fault. Boo hoo
