The search for a missing nurse has tragically ended with a member of the public finding her body in floodwaters in northern New South Wales as a new threat looms from the Queensland to the Victorian border.

Alina Brakel, 55, disappeared in floodwaters late on Tuesday night around five kilometres south of the flood devastated city of Lismore in the suburb of Monaltrie.

Offer ends 31 October, 2022 A member of the public spotted a body in floodwaters at the intersection of Alexandra Parade and Tweet Street in North Lismore just before 7pm on Thursday.Anyone who spots Ms Brakel's white Holden Captiva with number plates YHS 51F is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.Anyone who spots her vehicle bearing number plates YHS 51F is urged to immediately contact Richmond Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.Floodwaters in northern NSW is slowly receding after it peaked at 11.

It has now fallen under the major flood level and sits at 9.70m with moderate flooding still occuring for most of Lismore and surrounding suburbs.Floodwaters are yet to peak at Bungawalbin and Woodburn. Residents in parts of Mullumbimby, North Macksville, Kings Point, Nambucca Heads, Condong, Tumbulgum, Urunga, Bellinger Keys, Newry Island, Yellow Rock, Kyogle and the Bellinger River Tourist Park could return home.
