At least one in five new job vacancies is due to “missing migrants” who never had the chance to move to Australia after the borders were shut.

continues to be felt months after reopening, with new research finding at least one in five new job vacancies is due to “missing migrants” who never had the chance to move here.

The findings are from a new report by the e61 institute that aims to quantify the role of “missing” migrant workers on Australia’sJob vacancies hit a record high of 480,000 unfilled positions in May and one in four businesses surveyed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics is trying to fill at least one role.

While net temporary migration has returned to positive territory since the resumption of international travel, the authors said the “legacy of the pandemic lingers”.By September last year, there were 362,677 fewer temporary migrants living in Australia compared with the same period in 2019, the authors said.

“Missing temporary migrant workers can plausibly account for a sizeable share of the increase in vacancies in sectors that previously relied heavily on international students and working holidaymakers, like hospitality, but appear less relevant elsewhere,” Mr Buckley and Mr Elias said in a statement.

I call BS.

No immigration for the past 2 years has proved we don't need the massive numbers of migrants we've had for the past 10 years. The economy is doing fine. If we need more workers, stop paying people to sit at home on the dole.

What an absurd assertion. This is not journalism; this is supposition wrapped in wishful thinking surrounded by activism.

Almost comical - meanwhile in Victoria……..

Yes. We can see what its done for Australians looking for a job. So, Why the fuss?
