Twenty Australian Defence Force workers will drive ambulances in Victoria from Thursday, but Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the military is not equipped to prop up the state’s hospital system as it buckles from rising patient numbers and reduced staff due to COVID-19.
On Tuesday, Paul Gilbert, assistant secretary at the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation’s Victorian branch, warned the code brown declaration did not go far enough. He called on the federal government to deploy military support. “Older people are at risk of missing out on essential care because of this. Lockdowns are restricting many residents to their rooms as services work to keep them safe.”
“The ADF will also supply a further six ADF personnel as part of a planning team to support Victorian authorities. These personnel will have planning and logistics skills. Twelve Australian Public Service personnel are currently assisting Victorian authorities taking triple zero calls, and we will extend this support for a further period.
MeljCunningham But, none of us could see this coming…. ScottMorrisonMP DanSuan2 abcnews
MeljCunningham Limited support from limited Scomo is all we can expect, as well as unlimited scams from unlimited Scamo.
MeljCunningham Yeah because DanielAndrewsMP didn’t think before firing unvaccinated staff 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
MeljCunningham Hmmm the military have been used to patrol Australian streets and police our compliance to Covid rules. But, they can’t be used in a Natural, or National disaster, to help our struggling health system cope? Why are we paying Armed services, for so very little service?
MeljCunningham Hospitals aren't only for Covid. People with other illnesses need to be treated and suggesting that unvax HCW would be reckless is an insult to them and all our health systems including the institutions that teach/train them. Most HCW regardless of vax status are caring people
MeljCunningham Any reason why we cannot use final year paramedic students ? They would gain invaluable experience and be paired up with experienced paramedics
MeljCunningham Of course it’s Victoria ScottMorrisonMP if it was NSWs th help would b unlimited FARK PM of NSW
MeljCunningham Perhaps if they just took over there in Spring Strasse (aka regime change), get the trains + trams to run on time, blah, blah... 😏 ...there's a park out the back where there are statues of dead premiers/chief ministers...
MeljCunningham Emergencies require emergency responses. Any HCW that can work and wants to work should be allowed to work regardless of vax status(In a safe way! RAT DAILY). It is negligent of the government not to allow this to occur. PEOPLE WILL DIE AND NOT OF OR WITH COVID-19!!!!
MeljCunningham Why aren't they using the Defence force to drive supplies to supermarkets? auspol
