UWA Defence and Security Institute’s Peter Dean says Mike Pezzullo’s drums of war comment got “reactions from abroad” including being featured in UK papers and the reception has been split.

UWA Defence and Security Institute’s Peter Dean says Mike Pezzullo’s drums of war comment got “reactions from abroad” including being featured in UK papers, and the reception has been split. “We have heard people argue, including the premier here in Western Australia, that Mike Pezzullo should tone it down but conversely we’ve had other analysts and commentators saying he’s being pessimistic enough,” he told Sky News.

“It’s been an interesting debating point in the security service in Australia, I wouldn’t put my cache in what the Chinese government says particularly the approach they’ve had with their diplomacy of late and their propaganda.” Mr Dean said Mr Pezzullo’s comments were similar to what the government’s strategic update has indicated and Mr Pezzullo has experience in this area.
