The company that suffered the tragic death of its CEO this week is now fighting a battle of confidence about the whole home-building sector.

Industry veteran Mr Lynch declined to comment directly on rival Metricon, but said any builder expanding in a market where they had not previously been a major player had to compete for resources.Advertisement

“You may be doing it at a higher price to establish yourself. And you add that to expansion in sales in the areas that you’re already in – that was definitely happening across the east coast at least – you’ve got major problems.”Metricon said on Friday it was viable and profitable and expected it could pay all its bills when and as they fell due for payment. Queensland accounted for just 15 per cent of its business, it said.

“It would be very, very bad,” said one home builder. “Clearly any builder failing in the market is not good for confidence.” One Metricon customer on Sydney’s lower north shore said they had received “zero” communication from the company this week.In Werribee at least, Ms Gemmel-Ripikoi, who is six months pregnant with her second child, is confident of a smooth finish. She is looking forward to their final inspection this week on the $555,000 home that they are paying for in stages.
