Carparks solely for fuel-efficient cars have been set up at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s northeast causing a stir among residents and industry experts. Mernda Town Centre has marked out 70 car spaces using green lines which are reserved for fuel-efficient vehicles.
Shopping centre accused of playing favourites over EV carpark. A sign has popped up at the carpark which reads: “Reserved parking. Low emitting fuel-efficient vehicles only.” “Fuel-efficient vehicles 5L/100km or better. May include: Fuel-efficient vehicles, hybrids, electric vehicles.” One customer who parked his car in a reserved parking spot told 7NEWS the idea was “stupid”. “That’s why I park here on purpose,” he said.
