Eateries across Melbourne are scrambling to convert footpaths, decks, rooftops, and car parks into dining areas, although most doubt they'll make any profit.

The Victorian Government has flagged that on November 2, hospitality venues can open for 50 seated patrons outside.The Government has also announced $5,000 grants for hospitality businesses to buy equipment, and $130 million for local councils to allow more outdoor dining.

Manager Brett Rowlands said normally the venue hosted 600 to 700 patrons and served more than 500 meals a night. "We're a meeting place, a social gathering place for all our people, and it is very important that we all get back together."Venues dependent on Melbourne's weather "You cannot plan to open a venue and then have weather dictate to you that you can't do the capacity you thought you were going to do."
