The influential organisation representing Melbourne’s business and arts leaders says the city’s reputation as Australia’s events capital has been damaged by the “embarrassing” Novak Djokovic saga, writes _Biancah

over whether it was a state or federal government responsibility to grant exemptions from Australia’s double-vaccination immigration regime. The Victorian government claimed federal authorities wanted Victoria to sponsor Djokovic’s application for quarantine-free entry, a request Victoria said it rejected. The Morrison government denied this and said it only contacted Victoria to seek more proof of Djokovic’s medical claims.

There has been a strong public backlash to the controversy, which Ms Letts said would also reflect poorly on Melbourne.“No matter who is right or wrong, [the affair] has shown a vindictive and intolerant face of Australia which we can ill afford as we seek to open up again to the world,” she said.because prior infection of COVID-19 in the past six months is not a valid exemption for being unvaccinated. He could also consider whether to cancel the Serbian star’s visa on character grounds.

“Let’s let the Commonwealth government do what only the Commonwealth government can do - or not do - and that is issue visas ... ultimately, who gets a visa is a matter for the Commonwealth,” he said.Ms Letts said the afterglow of the successful Boxing Day Test had been tainted by what she described as a “blame game” between different levels of government.

Over the next six months, a raft of sporting, arts and cultural festivals are scheduled including the Australian Grand Prix, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Harry Potter and Moulin Rouge theatre shows, the International Flower and Garden Show and RISING festival.

_Biancah The influential organisation representing Melbourne’s business and arts leaders says the city’s reputation as Australia’s events capital has been damaged by the incompetent and corrupt federal Liberal government!!!! auspol ICAC ScottyFromPhotoOps ScottyDoesNothing

_Biancah Try reporting news next time...or did that change when Nine bought you out?

_Biancah There were covid-safe regulations in place for AO, he refused to follow them. Too bad, too sad. Nobody should care about a stuck-up, spoilt, rich, tennis brat. next

_Biancah The Djokovic saga demonstrates Australian incompetence at all levels. The Australian Amateur Hour appears to be drawing to a close. It’s now time to move on but everyone involved needs to do some serious soul searching and consider how they should lift their game.

_Biancah Newspapers do not care about Australians being ripped of by The badly employers abusing it's super power over worker's, why Newspapers not care to report the truth about Occupation Health and Safe breaches repeatedly on going by reckless careless by badly bosses WorkSafe puppet

_Biancah Of course it hasn't, the only reputation damaged was the Federal Government. Sports will continue top draws will come, we will all survive apart from the Federal Government.

_Biancah Not at all. It is still the sporting capital of Australia. A guy who lied and tried to cheat his way in and got caught is no embarrassment to Melbourne or Australia.

_Biancah Meh, people will forget about it once he’s back in Serbia..

_Biancah Has nothing to do with the city of Melbourne, nor events being staged there. This is a national border issue, being handled by the Federal Government of Australia.

_Biancah We'll cope. Get rid of him.

_Biancah WELL IT WAS ALL YOUR FAULT VICTORIA! IT WAS THE VICTORIAN HEALTH DEPT who granted the EXEMPTION of Novak Djokovic, accepting the lies of Him.

_Biancah 😂😂

_Biancah So Morrison’s focus groups and phone polling decided to swing him towards booting the selfish tennis shithead out. Now only if he’d spend as much energy on climate change and COVID issues in Australia 🤦‍♂️

_Biancah Not as bad as the effect on Australia's reputation amongst it's own people. Djokovic brought this on himself. His reputation should be the one that's criticised.

_Biancah None of the other GS has experienced this absurdity, let that SINK IN...

_Biancah No one from Melbourne gives a bugger about what is in the Age. It's no longer the paper it once was.

_Biancah We r in serious war, all must act like a Soldier & don't support selfish ones. Ready to put our life for country. Vaccine reduces death & stops Juke & Junk. Feel sorry for our Health Army that have to suffer due to Joke ones

_Biancah Yes, damaged unnecessarily too. What REAL harm would have been done to let Novak stay? It’s a bad decision by Minister, apparently without considering broader implications.

_Biancah Another influential organisation I've never heard of. Probably a 'grass roots group' backed by the IPA and LNP doing a little Dan baiting.

_Biancah Australia as a while is damaged by being a vassal to US policy

_Biancah Err no this is embarrassing for the Department of Home Affairs - its their stuff up. They're not even based in Melbourne 🤦‍♂️

_Biancah If only he’d : a: got vaxed if he could b: filled out his visa form correctly and honestly

_Biancah ScottMorrisonMP An Embarrassment to all Australians MorrisonFailure

_Biancah Absolute rubbish! More Liberal Party dribble. The Australian Open is bigger than one person. Melbourne is the events capital of Australia and everyone knows it!

_Biancah 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

_Biancah Tell them to shut it. We don't care.

_Biancah Total an absolute rubbish it has not affected us at all the whole world in a bloody mess thanks to China which everyone seems to forget it's China that cause this

_Biancah Any other person lying on paperwork to enter Australia who have said Visa revoked. Send him home, people's health more important

_Biancah Yeah, by Djokovic

_Biancah What's going on with Mr. Nadal? He entered Australia ill, that is, he entered after 11 days (and must after 14) on 31.12.2021, from the day when he was infected with the Kovid virus, he was infected on 20.12.2021. When will Nadal be deported

_Biancah What's going on with Mr. Nadal? He entered Australia ill, that is, he entered after 11 days (and must after 14), from the day he was infected with the Kovid virus!!!!

_Biancah What's going on with Mr. Nadal? He entered Australia ill, that is, he entered after 11 days (and must after 14), from the day he was infected with the Kovid virus.

_Biancah Of course, it is. We all look like fools.

_Biancah Really, influential? Did you bother to look at board members? Mostly big biz people who know little about us common folks who have been conned by Djokovic et al and slapped in the face because we followed rules.

_Biancah The federal government has not the state

_Biancah Wow! The age is becoming the new Herald.

_Biancah this man has made a mockery of Melbourne and the federal government and will be highly accentuated should babe be allowed to play and win this tournament - the Aussie Ipen will be blackballed forever, I’ve switched off already

_Biancah Rubbish! Melbourne is a much bigger city than a rogue tennis player trying to play the game at the border.A wonderful cosmopolitan well organised city.People can see past any one brainless selfish idiot trying to scam every Australian.Go Melbourne!👍👍

_Biancah Labor & Dan fault?

_Biancah Rubbish

_Biancah All due to the pathetic backflip by Daniel Andrews.DanielAndrewsLies SpringSt

_Biancah Australia has to decide what its image in the world should be. An example of the rule of law, or an example of favouritism. The answer from our East-Central Europe perspective will be very instructive.

_Biancah I have nothing to say against anti vaxxers, it’s their choice. But I have a lot to say about them not respecting our people who are going through a very difficult time, and they use their millions to steamroll ahead and get their own way!

_Biancah It’s embarrassing how long our Federal government takes to make a decision about one person who has not followed the rules. 1, single, less than two. No wonder refugees never get any response or action, our government is slow, heartless and unable to make any decisions.

_Biancah An issue of Morrison & the LNP death cult’s making. & on cue Bianca helps the LNP & its patrons put the boot into Melbourne as Costello’s TheAge has done time & time again since being bought out by 9. Bianca, shielding Morrison from scrutiny. Dump Costello’s shitrag. auspol

_Biancah Melbourne City Council is a major party of destroy the City lifestyle - refuse to consult with business and rate payers - muggings, rubbish, urine smells, car parks now bike lanes - Melbourne the Crime and Drug Capital of Australia

_Biancah 47 dead so far today from covid, try reporting some real NEWS

_Biancah Yeah nah.

_Biancah This Aus govt instead of creating the herd immunity created herd mentality of Australians...

_Biancah No shit… 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 He’ll play and while he does… 🖕🏿🖕🏿🖕🏿🖕🏿🖕🏿to the Australian/Melbournians that had to endure lockdowns and mandatory vaccination just to live 💁🏻‍♀️

_Biancah The public is now seeing the stupidity of multiple governments and hurdles local business need to navigate without the benefit of having lawyers and millions of $ behind them

_Biancah Of course it has but it has also demonstrated how cruel our government is! Our government needs to leave not Novak. They should all be deported to Antartica with covid safe protocols! ScottMorrisonMP DanielAndrewsMP 7NewsMelbourne 9NewsMelb abcnews

_Biancah The city and the country reputation is already in a deep sh¡t hole with all the absurd and totalitarian cov¡d rules, repression and lack of freedom. Kaput

_Biancah Reputation? Ha!Ha! Ha! Talking bout respectful beggars 🙂

_Biancah Do they have any hard evidence of this 'damage'?

_Biancah Djokovic shouldn’t have embarrassed Australia

_Biancah I agree. And Melbourne deserves better because it is a fantastic city

_Biancah And refugees locked up for years. And the police brutality beamed around the world. And the stabbing and shootings. And our kids being denied educations. And empty shelves while farmers destroy food because no one is being allowed to help with harvests! No longer liveable!

_Biancah International press has been split and is starting to trend against Djokovic as more details are revealed. A week ago when this broke it was more concerning, but becoming less so now.

_Biancah 100%

_Biancah 1) Sport was abused for political gains shortly before elections 2) Politicians can overrule court decisions ⁉️- Banana Republic

_Biancah Lol events capital? Please!
