COVID-19 brings forward ‘tsunami of difficulties’ for mental health | Sky News AustraliaUniversity of Sydney Professor Ian Hickie has warned the economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have created a “tsunami of difficulties” for the mental health of Australians.\n\n“Recessions are bad for mental health, but the combination here of social dislocation and really the social impact on top of the economic impact has been a real tsunami of difficulties,” he told Sky News.\n\n“We really need to greater our capacity to respond, and we need to make sure people get effective help when they do come forward.”\n\nProfessor Hickie said relaxed social restrictions in Victoria due to be announced on Sunday would be an important step in the right direction.\n\n“This is really important, people being in contact with each other,” he said.\n\n“Being able to meet with those people you love, being able to spend time with people and connect, is a critical part to any mental health response.”\n\nOne of the major problems with mental health care in Australia, Professor Hickie said, is the clustered nature in wealthy parts of city environments.\n\n“It doesn’t tend to reach those in the outer urban and regional areas,” he said. \n\n“This is a time when our national government and our state governments have to get their act together to see the real expansion of those services.\n\n“So we really got to get our act together in Australia now and actually put aside the problems we’ve had in the past and get the nation to work as a whole.” Tell that DanielAndrewsMP . I think he already has it. Melbourne All the lies and propaganda spread by economists are coming home to roost. 1.2m temp work visa holder, & 600k plus Kiwis equate with 16% of our work of 12.5m add 2 million unemployed Aust, that comes to 32% all vying for limited work vacancies, is a social disaster & disgrace. Add to that the idiotic push by all economists encouraging folk to spend spend&keep spending until your purse is bare &empty is the most absurd advice conceivable&illustrates how fuct economic thinkers are. Folk need to be saving saving saving for when times are bad such as now

'The mood is definitely changing': Frustration over Melbourne's lockdown mounts as business begs for restrictions to be easedSmall business owners who initially supported Victoria's tough lockdown are now losing faith, saying they're tired of playing 'guessing games' over what the Premier will announce on Sunday. Mood not changing, just the continued reporting telling us so. Some businesses are re engineering how they will work. Some are using the time and the govt grants to renovate. You see the difference between those businesses working to survive and those sitting back doing nothing If I was running vic, I'd be very petty and just open it all. Let them have at it. See how shit it all is in 6 months
