Leading US coronavirus expert Anthony Fauci says America doesn't need any more widespread lockdowns to bring its COVID-19 outbreak under control – despite a number of states reporting record increases in the disease.

The state’s infection tally rose by 13 to 1792, with 91 of the COVID-19 cases still active, Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan told reporters today.

Up to seven cases were identified through routine testing, while four were linked to the Stamford Plaza Hotel outbreak, which houses returned travellers. The surge in Victoria’s cases has concerned authorities in the past week, with Ms Allan saying they were keeping a “really close eye on the numbers” as the state prepares to roll back another round of restrictions on Monday.

“It might just be a blip, it might be two days of high case numbers, it might be a second wave – I hope it’s not,” deputy chief health officer Annaliese van Diemen said yesterday. “We don’t know what’s out there in the community. That is why we…need people to get tested if they have got symptoms.” The increase comes as NSW reported seven new cases of COVID-19 overnight – all returned travellers in hotel quarantine – and South Australia extended its travel “bubble” to Queensland. Australia has recorded 7388 coronavirus cases overall, with 3143 in NSW, 1793 in Victoria, 1066 in Queensland, 602 in Western Australia, 440 in South Australia, 228 in Tasmania, 108 in the ACT, and 29 in the Northern Territory.

Coronavirus-riddled hotel cluster surges as infections growThe coronavirus outbreak at Melbourne&x27;s Stamford Plaza Hotel continues to surge, with another four people testing positive overnight. Returned travellers. Also, not a 'surge'. A relative surge at best, and that's been generous with terms. Makes you question whether making mandatory hotel quarantine is a good idea.... Are they from the European or Asian community of Australians since first contact by foreign white British Cook trying to claim Australia to be British like Northern Ireland is still shamefully today?

New coronavirus cluster closes schools, cuts travel in Beijing as India's death toll spikesChina closed schools in Beijing and restricted air travel from the capital on Wednesday to halt an outbreak of coronavirus cases and dampen fears of a second wave, as India's death toll spiked and Sweden's went above 5,000. GlobalWednesdayService Where's the ongoing analysis of the UK's failings? Why the focus on Sweden? Sweden has a lower death rate per million and a lower infection per million than the UK. Also, we already know China has the systems in place to contain covid. They proved that first time round.

Heavy police presence to remain in Melbourne's west to stop revenge attacks over teen's stabbing deathPolice are desperately engaging with schools and teenagers in Melbourne's west to prevent an escalation of violence after 15-year-old Solomone Taufeulungaki was stabbed to death this week. Ahh , diversity is our strength . Multiculturalism working well, I see. Some classic doublethink here: 'Melbourne was a safe city, it was also a growing capital city in excess of 5 million people, which brought with it higher levels of crime.' So they will protect foreigners but not Aussies, got it.
