Brrrr! Rug up Melburnians - it's going to be a cold one tomorrow

Melbourne is set to face its coldest day of the year on Friday as part of a system expected to drench some suburbs with as much as 30 millimetres of rain.

The cold front is moving in from the west and will reach Melbourne's outskirts about 7pm or 8pm on Thursday, while the strongest winds will impact the city about noon on Friday, he said. The system was providing much-needed follow-up rain for large parts of western Victoria that had suffered through drought-like conditions until a heavy rain band dumped record falls last week.

By Thursday afternoon, Casterton had received 15 millimetres, while 12 millimetres had fallen at Edenhope and Dartmoor.
