The front pages of every major newspaper were censored this morning as part of Australia’s Right to Know campaign which is calling for greater protections for journalists and access to information.

The media coalition have asked the government for the right to contest warrants, exemptions from poorly crafted laws that make journalistic practice an offense, protection for public sector whistle-blowers, fewer secret documents and reform in the Freedom of Information regime.

“I can understand the frustrations … these are matters that are investigated by the AFP at arm’s length from government,” he said. “We need to make sure whatever legislative changes are required to ensure media freedoms are adopted, it should happen in a bi-partisan way and it should happen quickly.” Her colleague, Nine’s Political Editor Chris Uhlmann, said the freedom of information process was no longer useful for receiving information.

Media bosses have also lamented the heavy financial drain of legal costs due to the persecution of journalists under restrictive laws.

Maybe if journalists reported the facts instead of spinning to suit the ‘story’ they might receive a more friendly, less cynical reception from government & punters alike.

Imagine if you didn't run defence for the liberals lies during the election campaign 😂 😂 😂

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Start Reporting the truth instead of the heavily biased crap and propaganda.

My suggestion is stop calling them ‘journalists’ and use the real label, ‘actors’

Journalists arguing they are so important they should be in a special category not available to others. No consequences for lies and breaking the law is the end game.

Lefty Journos are Liars and Sooks.

The government will need to think very carefully about the demands from the media on journalists freedom. The journalists need to fare and just in reporting any news. If too much freedom is granted journalists will err and eventually be negative.

If journalist want to be taken seriously then stop doing fake news, be neutral and be prepared to call out other journalist if they print fake news or are not neutral. Until that occurs then you get what you deserve and shouldn't get any protections. Self Administer

Totally agree

Press freedom advertising blitz to call for greater protections | Sky News AustraliaA combined press freedom advertising campaign is set to launch this week, as the Australian media call for greater protections for journalists. \n\nThe press freedom push comes after the Australian Federal Police conducted raids at the ABC and at the home of a News Corp reporter in June. The Old defunct Media still think their the gate keepers, your not. Do the crime do the time. No one is above the law. If I or you steal or wilfully receive highly classified defence and security documents, then we should be gaoled or at least heavily fined. Oh and so should journalists. Luvvies Whether some documents are over-classified is a distinct question. Mitchell_1961 This government constantly uses national security as an excuse for censorship. Picks and chooses what it releases for political gain and proposes 161 year jail terms for ATO whistle blowers. If Labor was doing these things Skynews would be comparing them to communist China
