A Sydney ferry has suffered a mechanical fault that resulted in it unexpectedly heading to starboard and then to port, two days after another of the Indonesian-built vessels in the state’s fleet had its steering indicators freeze.
The incident came two days after the Lauren Jackson suffered a problem with its steering indicators near Barangaroo wharf in Sydney’s CBD. The Ruth Park was tied up at the Balmain shipyard on Tuesday.Jessica Hromas “This mechanical issue caused by a faulty component has been resolved, with the component replaced, and the vessel is due to return to service following successful sea trials,” it said in a statement. “An investigation determined the incident was not the result of any steering failure.”
A spokesperson said the Lauren Jackson had experienced a freezing of its steering indicators on March 31, requiring a system reset.Steven Siewert
