Analysis: Jodi McKay cannot be held responsible for all of Labor’s woes. However, the next state election is two years away this month, and Labor has not been further from victory in more than a century | AlexSmithSMH

When NSW Labor leader Jodi McKay faces her caucus on Tuesday, she will undoubtedly point to the wipe out of the Liberals in Western Australia as proof that incumbents are untouchable.

The pandemic also helped return Labor to power in the Northern Territory. Saturday’s results in Western Australia were the most stark example of incumbency success. However, McKay will not be able to ignore new internal party polling, which paints a sobering picture of what Labor could face in 2023 if it fails to lift its primary vote of 23.9 per cent.

The last Labor leader to win an election was Morris Iemma in 2007. His message is clear: a loss of hope is engulfing the NSW branch. Worse, he warns the last 10 years have been wasted.

AlexSmithSMH And would that be because smh barely covers the Leader of the Opposition?

AlexSmithSMH Well if the press keeps telling us Labor is far from victory, they will not get closer to it! So more positive info about Labor SydneyHerald! A fair press, yeah right!

AlexSmithSMH We could hear how the government plans to move us beyond COVID, towards a better society. Failing that the ideas of the opposition. Instead I am hearing about a 'race' that is 2 years away. This crap journalism and does not deserve the subscription I currently pay.

AlexSmithSMH I'm sitting here trying to think of the name of a male MP in the NSW Labor caucus ... any male at all ... I can suggest Michael Daley but I'm not sure he hasn't retired. Jodi McKay is decent, and more importantly she isn't corrupt. If Labor change leaders they'll lose my vote.

AlexSmithSMH The day after WA labor smash the libs out of the park your headline is a poll for an election 2 years away. Sad the smh is now Gladys' PR arm.

AlexSmithSMH Jodie needs to get herself a dud, corrupt, secret boyfriend Then she’ll be a as blue to get away with anything

AlexSmithSMH Alex Smith is so far Gladys' arse that this should not be classed as analysis rather a puff opinion piece. What a fucking joke

AlexSmithSMH At least you were kind enough to include comments, absolutely fine work you lot friendlyjordies

AlexSmithSMH Sounds like sour grapes over the Liberal wipeout in WA.

AlexSmithSMH So the NSWelsh people condone Gladys lying, rorting, & corruption. The Nationals rorting & infighting strange people like paying their taxes to criminals who pocket it for themselves.

AlexSmithSMH Nah got it all wrong Gladys has been handing out money right right and centre for sexual favours. One rort after another, or one root after another just because the didn’t keep the pressure up,doesn’t mean it will go away.Corrupt to the core The Libs will be no more.

AlexSmithSMH That's because Gladys is full of corruption with her so called 'Boyfriend' what a load of Shit, why don't you report on all the rorts & Scams, corruption this Govt is running!!

AlexSmithSMH The day the LNP is virtually wiped out in WA you decide to report this & send out a news notification. Your bias is showing. My husband has been a long term digital subscriber to support good journalism. Time to reconsider if all you are another version of Murdoch.

AlexSmithSMH Another pathetic take by a hack 'journo'. Election two years away and a corrupt NSW govt lucky enough to be the incumbent during a pandemic. Quick look over there while we try to deflect from the complete annihilation of the Liberal party in the West

AlexSmithSMH I’m glad l don’t live in the corruption capital of Australia

AlexSmithSMH The Sydney Morning Gladys strikes again. What is the need for Alex Smith? Her work is obviously written inside the Liberal Party head office.
