Exclusive: The government has told casuals who cannot work due to coronavirus to access welfare, but the payments are much lower than what many casuals earn | nickbonyhady

Many casual workers who are forced to self-isolate or endure a hospital stay for coronavirus will lose out on hundreds of dollars in wages under the government's coronavirus response plan.

Australian Greens leader Adam Bandt wants the government to introduce paid coronavirus sick leave to all workers.Labor, the Greens and the union movement had called on the government to make financial assistance available to casual workers to encourage them not to put others at risk by going to work if unwell after a worker who had been tested for coronavirus went to their casual job in Hobart while awaiting the test results.

"We’re all in this crisis together, but instead of looking after each other, the government is throwing some people to the wolves," Australian Greens leader Adam Bandt said. "Unless we support the millions of people reliant on casual and insecure work, they may feel forced to come to work instead of staying at home, which will make things worse for everyone."

Some of the nation's largest employers, including Woolworths, ANZ, CBA and Westpac, have committed to giving their casual workers paid leave, subject to differing conditions, in response to the coronavirus crisis.Mr Bandt said the Greens would introduce a bill to give all workers 14 days' paid coronavirus sick leave, paid for by the government, when Parliament resumes.

nickbonyhady Fuck off. My dad who was sent bankrupt as a result of a spinal condition has spent over 2 years trying to access disabilty.......for which they continually move the goal posts

nickbonyhady social safety net was 'Social Security', a human right under Art22 UDHR. What this govt and msm shills viciously call 'welfare' is a weaponised, militarised system of coercive control that has murdered people, starved people, forced people to die of cancer in absolute poverty.

nickbonyhady Obviously.

nickbonyhady Government should close public supports and include schools

nickbonyhady A nation that cannot provide for or even offer guidance to its population. Australians idiotically vote time and again for a conservative failed state.

nickbonyhady Maybe they should have done more learning at school

nickbonyhady Min wage $19 / hr Casual Min wage $21 / hr Welfare $9 / hr

nickbonyhady In other news. The stupidity which said the articles headline now about to self isolate due to stupid decision making. Otherwise known as ‘pulling a Dutton’

nickbonyhady Passing money from one person to another would most likely be a’ surface’ that would spread the virus?

nickbonyhady why didn't the government give some of the stimulus package to casual workers? They are going to be impacted the most by this. If you're already receiving welfare you will not be impacted to the level of a casual worker.

nickbonyhady That’s why everybody should hang a little left of centre

nickbonyhady AND that surprised you How? You do realise that we are talking about a Conservative government here. To them any form of welfare to workers is almost theft. As they keep telling you welfare is not a right and not a way of life.

nickbonyhady Sickness allowance is a sham. I couldn’t access it as a rare cancer patient.

nickbonyhady But better than nothing
