Businesses largely support the move to mandatory jabs because they want to reopen, and the statewide approach will save them from potential litigation or damage to their reputation, Paul Guerra writes. | OPINION covid19 vaccines springst

Businesses and workers have sacrificed, suffered and done their bit to protect us all from COVID-19. They stayed closed, in some cases without work, pivoted their services to keep Victorians employed and many lost what they had spent years building. Businesses across the state are in crisis.is in sight, governments must reward businesses by making it as easy as possible to trade in a COVID-normal world.

The 21 issues raised will require guidance from state and federal governments. They range from whether industrial manslaughter legislation comes into play if a staff member contracts COVID-19 in the workplace and dies as a result, and whether everyone in a workplace will need to isolate for 14 days if it is deemed to be a tier-one site, to employees’ rights should they need to visit other workplaces that may require fully vaccinated staff.

When the COVID-19 outbreak peaked in Shepparton about six weeks ago, one-third of the town’s population was forced into isolation. This resulted in staff shortages and shutdowns of essential businesses, such as supermarkets, which induced panic and anxiety.

Friday’s announcement addressed many of the 21 issues, but not all. Uncertainty is no friend of business. We need clear guidelines – fair, reasonable and equally applied – just like we have with road rules. They are there to keep us safe, not over-regulate us.

Can't speak for business but the Feds are loving that Dan is doing it and copping the heat while they get the benefits of the greater numbers. You could read that into Greg Gunt's 'that's matter for the states' today. covid19vic

Anti-vax tax could be a solution to COVID policy muddleOpinion: Instead of enforcing mandatory vaccines, perhaps a tax on the unvaccinated could encourage people to roll up their sleeves The unvaccinated are overwhelmingly from lower socio economic groups, this would effectively be a tax on the poor. The rural poor especially. So, get in the bin. How about the government stop trying to force people to do something they don’t want to do? To be equitable, also a tax on: Fast Food consumers, Mainstream Media consumers, Binge Drinkers and Bulldogs supporters

Victoria records 1220 new Covid-19 cases overnight, three deadA Melbourne nurse has described patients “begging” for the coronavirus vaccine when they’re about to be put on life support as Victoria considers whether to fly in help from interstate. That’s very sad 😢 I'm vaxxed BUT 'One of her patients was a “fit” tradie in his 30s with no past history of medical issues who was not vaccinated & ended up in intensive care with the virus.' You haven't disclosed his weight & height? Obesity is the biggest risk factor for covid. COVID19 Yep

‘I don’t see how we can be separate’: Shorten backs mandatory jabs for MPsFormer Labor leader Bill Shorten questions how the government can mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for nurses and aged care workers but not for themselves. jamesmassola Good. jamesmassola I OPPOSE mandatory vaccination for politicians. Letting Natural Selection run its course, weeding the vaccine hesitant pollies out of Parliament, would be far healthier for the country. auspol jamesmassola Of course he would, we have to except every politician has no back bone to stand up.

No jab, no play mandate may sink Djokovic’s grand slam dreamTennis chiefs resisted a looming vaccine mandate for the Australian Open, fearing it could deter vaccine-hesitant champion Novak Djokovic in his pursuit of a record-breaking 21st grand slam title | paulsakkal scottspits paulsakkal scottspits ATTENTION VICTORIA: Dan Andrews only has 'emergency powers' until 21/9/21, which is why he is pushing vax mandates and threatening jobs. After this date he will have NO POWER TO MANDATE ANYTHING. Hold out. You can help👇 paulsakkal scottspits His choice. Choices have consequences and if that means he misses out on the Aust open or going to the pub, it his choice. paulsakkal scottspits So the 'tennis chiefs' think it is a good idea to have a high profile tennis champ here who will in all likelihood spread his stupid and deadly nonsense about vaccines. Perhaps we should take the 'Australian' out of Australian Open and just call it the Antivaxxer Open instead.
