Vaccination will be mandatory for all staff at schools and early childhood centres and they must have a first dose by October 18, or a booking within one week of then, Education Minister James Merlino has announced.

Education Minister James Merlino announced a $190 million package to boost ventilation and air purification in schools in a bid to stem transmission of COVID-19.In what Mr Merlino termed an “Australian first”, the government has signed a contract with Samsung to deliver 51,000 air purification devices to every government low-fee Catholic, and independent schools in Victoria.

Victoria recorded three deaths and 628 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, the highest number of daily infections in more than a year. There were 60,829 COVID-19 tests results processed while more than 43,056 people rolled up their sleeves for a coronavirus jab. Mr Merlino said assessments would be made in 20,000 rooms in different kinds of schools, including vertical and heritage buildings. Monitoring and assessment would “inform the full rollout of our air purification devices over the coming weeks and months for this is a very, very significant announcement”.

It’s not good enough, they should be fully vaccinated before schools reopen and so should the parents. We are opening up schools too early- the consequences could be disastrous.

What about mandatory Vac for police and SOG? Go on CHO? We are all in this together.

Why isn't there a vaccine mandate for all politicians and Parliamentary staffers yet? What's with the hold up there? DanielAndrewsMP should take the lead and ban all MPs and staffers from entering Parliament should they refuse the jab. Walk the talk, Dan.

When are we getting mandatory jabs for the police? Dansthugs Melbourneprotest

Great news!

Lead from the front mate. Compulsory for politicians too....... The silence is deafening.

That’s right 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

As a teacher, parent and grandparent, I thought it my responsibility to get vaccinated months ago.

This is ridiculous - absolutely ridiculous

No problem with this, I've been fully vaxxed for over a month, so have many of my colleagues.

Already vaxxed as early as possible. Can promise you 99%already on board with this. No rioting from us. We're adults.

Booster by April? 2nd booster by October?

Stop forcing the needle please.

Bet you won't see teachers on the streets rioting.

No problem. All vaxed anyway.

Good! Let’s get back to the classroom!

I’m a teacher in Cairns and got vaxxed back in June, as soon as I was eligible. When I got my first jab there were 3 other teachers from my school in the waiting room. I don’t think you’re going to have a huge problem with us.

Good

Is it also mandatory for all Victorian State politicians and all Council legislators ( LGA) surely they need to lead by example !!

Next major political eruption just established

Protesters to now where school uniforms!

How bout forcing these politicians to take it as well.. I don’t see any mandates for them taking the Vax. 😡😡

pretty logical if theres a pandemic and theres a vaccine ...99.99999% of rational logical mature people would say lets get the jab .....

First in the country 👏

Good.

Why has VicGov been so slow to act with Schools - this could have been done months ago!!

Time to claim redundancy, teachers. Walk away. Just walk. Don't look back. This is a very evil thing. covid19vic

All the teachers will start rioting now, you'll see! Oh wait... They don't get their news from Qanon and Avi.

And I bet we won’t see them protesting like sooks

Let’s get back to school!

And every teacher I know thinks this is great I am a teacher, I am FullyVaccinated, I totally support all people in my work place are needing to be fully vaxed to protect those in our care who can't be.

Great what about mandatory vaxs for parents of kids and kids 12 plus. This is where the issue will lie, until this is addressed schools will get cases and will close

No more school closures. This will ensure Schools Stay OPEN! Excellent news! Open the schools. COVID19Vic

Paramedic says he's been suspended after taking vaccine battle to courtJohn Larter, who started legal action last week against mandatory COVID jabs for NSW health workers, says he's been advised via email today that he can't work. I wonder if anyone who needs a paramedic would have a co morbidity that would put them at an increased risk? He probably should not be a paramedic. Good.
