A Victorian man who sent 52 packages filled with asbestos to embassies in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra has been sentenced to one year in prison.

A Victorian man who sent dozens of packages filled with asbestos to embassies in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra has been sentenced to one year in prison and will be released in four months as a result of 240 days already served.

"The circumstances brought a low risk of harm because no packages were opened. However, statements from embassy employees show they suffered," he said.Judge McInerney called the situation"bizarre", but said Avan's chances of rehabilitation were high if he was properly supported.
