A man who attempted to kidnap a toddler outside a library in Melbourne's north has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Michael Rawson, 41, was suffering from drug induced psychosis when he thought the two-year-old boy outside Preston Library was his own daughter in November last year. CCTV video released by Victoria's County Court shows Rawson attempting to snatch the child and bashing his father to the ground.The boy's father was punched in the head as he tried to protect his son.Judge Felicity Hampel said the incident "is every parent's nightmare".

I can’t help but imagine what would have happened if he had succeeded in grabbing and taking the baby away from the father for longer. And he had just been bailed minutes before this incident? Insane! The system is not good enough.
