A 61-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter after a newborn baby died at Bankstown Hospital in 2016.

Police will allege the man failed to adhere to the Australia standards when certifying oxygen connections within the neonatal medical gas outlet at the hospital.

A coronial inquest into the baby's death commenced in 2021 before the matter was referred to the Office of the Director of Prosecutions for a review of police evidence.

As a result police charged a 61-year-old man with manslaughter by criminal negligence and cause grievous bodily harm by negligent act or omission.
