An eight-year-old boy and 47-year-old man were seriously injured in the crash, a police spokesman said.
The child was taken to the Sydney Children's Hospital in a critical condition, while the man was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.A second child witnessed the incident and was taken to the Sydney Children's Hospital as a precaution after suffering shock, police said.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Christie Marks said the scene was "absolutely horrendous for everyone involved" and that emergency services and the children's families "are extremely distressed". "Our paramedics worked extremely closely with other emergency services at the scene and worked tirelessly on the patients," she said.
A bystander who began first aid on the injured pedestrians should be commended for their efforts, she added.More to come
