The Community and Public Sector Union which represents staff at Malmsbury Juvenile Centre are in discussions with the Department of Justice and Community Safety and WorkSafe after a series of violent attacks on staff.
Two 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old will face Bendigo Magistrates Court today charged with intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, affray and assaulting an emergency worker. Police will argue that all three men should to be moved to an adult prison, with at least one set to fight the plan.
The health and safety representative for workers at the centre this-morning ordered stop-work action while a member of WorkSafe assessed ongoing safety concerns believed to be connected to chronic understaffing issues. One Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre worker has been released from hospital while the other remains in hospital in a stable condition.
