The Church's first South American pontiff acknowledges the history of hurt caused by clergy around the world after decades of sexual abuse against women and children

Francis acknowledged the Church had to win back many young people who see it as insignificant in their lives or a nuisance.

He said such a view of the Church can"have serious and understandable reasons: sexual and financial scandals; a clergy ill-prepared to engage effectively with the sensitivities of the young."The Church had to keep and attract young people by better explaining its doctrine, he said. "A Church always on the defensive, which loses her humility and stops listening to others, which leaves no room for questions, loses her youth and turns into a museum," he said. The pope also did not mention demands by women participants at the synod that they be allowed to vote in future synods.

But while he said the Church should be"attentive to the legitimate claims of those women who seek greater justice and equality" and that young people had complained of a"lack of leading female role models," he offered no new ideas.Recent stories in the magazine include one on sexual abuse of nuns by priests.Only a handful of women hold positions of authority in the Vatican.

As long as men hold on to the view that women are inferior, men will continue to abuse women if for no other reason than to assert their superiority, my take.

The Catholic Church is a hierarchy of male authoritarianism. So essentially the Pope is recognising it’s very essence as an organisation is a problem but won’t do anything about it, because power is too hard for them to relinquish. Bad luck kids...

The continuous hiss of women, the sound of a gender imploding.

Perhaps the Pope sees all priests as being sexually fluid, but celibate. However, if women priests were allowed, think of the chaos. Truth is, the equal women priests would be more able to expose the wrong doers, unlike past children, nuns and other priests who have been abused.

'Traditionally, male priests have always been the problem & we're all about tradition, here at the Vatican!'

Determined to hang on by his finger nails. Gender shouldn't matter. It's should be about finding correct person for job requirements. Yes, it's a job. Career path. Calling. Whatever you like. Ultimately it's commitment to a job. Let's not flower it up to be something it is not.

If women want to be priestesses, why don't they elect their own female pope... Always waiting for a man to do things for them...
