In a win for the dairy industry, both Coles and Aldi supermarkets have announced they will ditch $1-a-litre milk and increase the price by 10 per cent | jennynoise

on its website on Tuesday, Aldi said the 10 per cent increase "represents a short-term solution to an industry-wide problem that requires coordinated federal government-led structural reform."

Coles Group Chief Executive Officer Steven Cain said the company "supports proposals to make Australia’s dairy industry more sustainable, and we are continuing to explore long-term solutions with government and industry stakeholders. The move comes just hours after farmers in Queensland rallied outside the Coorparoo Coles in Brisbane's south on Wednesday, demanding the retail giant support them by lifting its price. Both Aldi and Coles will roll out the $2.20 and $3.30 milk from Wednesday.

jennynoise Advert.

jennynoise Just gonna throw this out here, dont me if i'm wrong but.. Couldn't we just pay, like y'know, $2 a litre?

jennynoise Wow. $1.10. That'll save the industry.

jennynoise Every time I see milk on the shelves promoting our farmers it reminds me that the big three are responsible for driving our dairy farmers to the wall.

jennynoise So what? Farmers are expected to be thankful? F&$k the monolithic retailers! Everyone pays, don’t imagine otherwise and the farmers will keep getting in the neck. And I’m a capitalist too.

jennynoise 10 whole cents, what a joke.. If I was a milk farmer I’d be sending my stock to the slaughter house, we don’t deserve that creamy goodness

jennynoise It's unlikely the farmers will see the money anytime soon and meanwhile the supermarkets will see this as an easy way to increase the price of other fresh produce too, causing low income families to suffer. If the farmers actually get the money, that's all good but otherwise? No.

jennynoise Unless coles physically hands the cash to farmers there is no guarantee the coops will pass this on. They're the ones who sell to coles, not the farmers

jennynoise Haha this’ll work. Maybe the farmers should go to TAFE and find a new career path.

jennynoise That's not a victory! Now they can pocket 10 extra cent and increase its profit. No benefit dairy farmers going to get out of this.

jennynoise Higher price = less demand

jennynoise How generous of them and Woolworths - we should weep in gratitude...

jennynoise No price fixing or collusion there at all 🤔

jennynoise Will it go to the farmers?

jennynoise What a mooooooooving story.

jennynoise Good

jennynoise FakeNews Coles, Aldi, and Woolworths set the sell price. They could sell at $1/l and still pay farmers a fair price if it meant out-pricing their competition. It's called loss-leader. They all need to be transparent now and disclose the full payment to farmers - before and after

jennynoise Ok. No problem

Supermarket giants pledge to raise milk prices by 10 cents a litre — in the short termColes and Aldi fold to pressure to raise the price of their home brand milk by 10 cents a litre, but both retailers say the increase is an interim measure ahead of industry reforms. Isn't collaborative price fixing illegal under competition laws ? accc auspol milk I don't even want to think deeply about this... Again... I just sincerely hope that this time around there is a better (for lack of better words!) method of getting the small benefits back to the dairy farmers. Big deal. Tight arse shoppers are quite capable of supporting the better milk.
