After weeks of bushfire-related closures, the Kings Highway from Canberra to the South Coast will reopen this afternoon.

The Kings Highway will reopen this afternoon after bushfires in the region forced the road's closure for much of the past month. The Kings Highway, which connects Canberra to the coast, has been shut since before Christmas1,200 hazardous trees that posed a danger to drivers have been removed

The arterial road, which connects Braidwood and Batemans Bay, was engulfed in flames from the 300,000-hectare Currowan bushfire in late December, and later, surrounded by smoke. It was deemed unsafe to reopen due to bushfire-affected trees, which needed to be removed, and destroyed guardrails and reflector lights — some of which were melted by the intense heat of the blaze.

Crews have worked around the clock to repair the damage along the 43-kilometre stretch and ensure the road's safety.

I'd say more like... too late? :/ AustraliaBurning 😂😂😂 you need to sell a kidney on eBay to get there it's so expensive ...so let the govt subsidise it the poor old taxpayer gets hit ..what a joke SealinkKI have a monopoly. Surely the best way for SAGovt to subsidise KI ferry fares is to foster competition, not merely subsidise a monopoly. KI residents would also need to be more willing to 'open up the island', that has assisted this situation to remain.

I love a fresh crisp carrot. Great to see. Many more animals need help with food and water. Maybe they'll do food drops for Centrelink recipients next. One can only hope.
