Lismore is facing another major flood and evacuation orders have been issued for towns across the Northern Rivers, as heavy rainfall continues to hit the flood-affected region on Tuesday morning.
The NSW SES is now directing residents in Tumbulgum and its surrounding areas to evacuate, as six-hour totals of up to 300mm of rainfall are forecast to hit the Northern Rivers late on Tuesday. “Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Tenterfield and Dorrigo.”
The evacuation comes after a major flood event earlier this month across south-east Queensland and NSW which results in the death of 22 people.One of the hardest-hit areas during the deadly flood event, which occurred from the end of February until early March, was the NSW town of Lismore after the Wilsons River reached unprecedented levels of almost 15 metres.
