Sydney could smash a rainfall record as the cats and dogs keep coming down and there’s no respite in sight. The Harbour City recorded more rain in the first six days of May than the monthly average of 117mm.Along the southern half of the NSW coast, more than 100mm of rain is likely across the weekend, with some areas predicted to potentially receive more than 200mm.More than 50mm of rain is expected in parts on NSW from Wednesday to Saturday night.
“There is also forecast an increased risk of moderate to heavy and widespread rain and thunderstorms across southern Queensland and much of both coastal and inland NSW on Friday, into the weekend and into early next week due to an eastwards-moving upper-level trough combining with the moist onshore flow,” the bureau says.
“This may bring a risk of widespread heavy rain to the southern half of the coast and adjacent ranges during the weekend and into early next week. The flood risk is elevated particularly from the NSW Hunter through to the south coast, where soils are already saturated.
