A leading Australian ear, nose and throat surgeon warns widely reported symptoms of loss of taste and smell in COVID-19 cases may linger long after some patients have recovered from the virus.

"If we're really wanting to up to identify these patients with mild or moderate symptoms, then we need to start looking at what those symptoms are. However, it is important to note that losing your sense of smell or taste does not automatically mean you have COVID-19.

"Patients who present with atypical or uncommon symptoms, or who don't neatly fit the clinical and epidemiological criteria, will be assessed on a case-by-case basis to determine whether testing is warranted, and a degree of clinical discretion is inbuilt in the criteria," the spokesperson said. While it is unclear what the prognosis will be for COVID-19-positive patients with those symptoms, Professor Carney said it was"highly likely" some people would experience permanent problems with their olfactory systems.

Like many claims from some chiropractors, this one lacks any scientific evidence of a link between smell and joint adjustments. Perhaps a placebo effect or a pure coincidence.

I sometimes get altered taste perception when I get sick & I can't smell anything when I get a cold but it's usually just a cold. Should I be more mindful that it may be a precursor to corona virus in the context of the pandemic or just relax and ride it out?

It’s time to treat early and long term the COVID19CoInfection Mycoplasma, this is the culprit ! Mycoplasma can cross the brain-blood barrier; also lay dormant especially in the joints and muscles! These dense tissues especially men’s prostate require longer term treatment.

Another point from DaveWallaceUS :“I believe that this is premature, as epithelial lining must be restored completely, (repaired), and it is normal in all cases where epithelial cells have been destroyed”.

Isn't it a tad early for something like this. How many people & what's the time frame have you been looking at? Not many & short timeframe I'm guessing.

“I hate the ABC and everything it stands for. I wouldn’t even spend ONE SECOND engaging with their leftist / greenie / woke content. That said, I do obsessively follow its twitter news feed, and let me tell you, in the strongest terms possible, this article STINKS” 💩

Australian dramatically rescued from stranded cruise tests positive for COVID-19Australians on board a stranded cruise ship stranded off Montevideo in Uruguay say the 'grim' situation on board is deteriorating after a seriously ill passenger was evacuated and found to have COVID-19. I bet they all thought it was pretty cool jumping aboard a germ incubator on March 15 to see Antarctica in the middle of a pandemic? Ultimately they made a poor decision to go. I know a lot of people who cancelled their travel plans well before that. Lost money but didn’t care. Long way from The Love Boat. I would imagine these Australians would rather be locked up in a 4 star hotel in Australia for 14 days than stay where they are.🤔
