The father of one of the two people murdered in the London Bridge terror attack has warning British politicians against using the death as a pretext for 'draconian' prison sentences.

The father of one of the two people murdered in the London Bridge terror attack has remembered his son as a "beautiful spirit" while warning British politicians against using the death of the Cambridge University graduate as a pretext for more "draconian" prison sentences.

Jack Merritt was working for a prisoner rehabilitation program when he was stabbed to death in the terror attack.Police have raided two homes as part of their investigation but Britain's counter-terror chief stressed there was "no evidence" to suggest Khan was working with others, amid concerns his co-conspirators from a 2010 plot to blow up the London Stock Exchange may have also been released from prison on parole.

Merritt was a graduate of Cambridge University and worked as a course coordinator for a rehabilitation program run by the university's Institute of Criminology. The Learning Together program aims to improve prisoner rehabilitation by pairing university students with prisoners. The program was conducting a course at Fishmonger's Hall next to London Bridge when Khan, 28, fatally stabbed Merritt and a woman who is yet to be formally identified. Three others were injured.

"I loved him to pieces. The warmest heart, always with time for anyone. Completely irreplaceable - I will mourn his loss greatly and honour his memory."

Asher_Wolf Not sure i can even fathom the logic, de-radicalizing, what is that, de-murderousing How do you cure a murderer? All Khan had to do was say he would be a good boy and take some classes, and they let him go!

Death penalty is not a deterrent- look at the USA.

He just lost a son and thing that comes to mind is stay soft on criminals and don't be too harsh on them. If they was harsh and sentence to death or even deport first time then his son would still be alive.

What a beautiful young man ... just such a loss . May he rest in peace 💕

Sounds like a wise man, who doesn't want extreme reactions

Never met a dad that would say this....

Obviously the father isn't thinking straight. If a person is violent and likely to kill, the only place is jail or deportation.

The headline is almost victim blaming... and also 'was' not 'has'.

So sad. 🙏
