The first victim of yesterday's stabbing attack, 25-year-old Jack Merritt, has been remembered as a 'beautiful spirit...who always took the side of the underdog'. 9News

Families of the three victims in hospital have all been informed, Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said in a press conference this morning.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Home Secretary Priti Patel visited the scene of the attack and met with Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick and City of London Police Commissioner Ian Dyson. "Obviously it's early days and there's a lot of investigations that need to be done. But it is clear to me that this guy was out, he'd served half of his sentence. He was out on automatic early release and I have long said that this system simply isn't working.

Britain's Parole Board said in a statement it had no role in releasing Khan, who "appears to have been released automatically on license , without ever being referred to the board", it said. Khan, whose family is from Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, was released in December 2018 subject to conditions. One of those men who was seen in video of the incident carrying a narwhal tusk to fight the London Bridge attacker has been identified byWhile the other men seen tackling Khan — with the exception of a plain-clothes British Transport Police officer and the chef — are believed to all be ex-offenders who were also at the rehabilitation conference, including a convicted murderer.
