London Bridge attack: First victim identified as Cambridge University graduate Jack Merritt

Families of the three victims in hospital have all been informed, Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said in a press conference this morning.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Home Secretary Priti Patel visited the scene of the attack and met with Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick and City of London Police Commissioner Ian Dyson. "Obviously it's early days and there's a lot of investigations that need to be done. But it is clear to me that this guy was out, he'd served half of his sentence. He was out on automatic early release and I have long said that this system simply isn't working.

Britain's Parole Board said in a statement it had no role in releasing Khan, who "appears to have been released automatically on license , without ever being referred to the board", it said. Khan, whose family is from Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, was released in December 2018 subject to conditions.
