Nine commentator and Maroons legend Darren Lockyer says the Sydney Roosters are by far the best team in the competition over the opening seven weeks with Melbourne still coming to grips with their playing style following the retirement of club legend Billy Slater., the Broncos' great declared the Roosters were the team to beat in 2019, following their win over the Dragons in the annual Anzac Day clash.
"I remember we were talking to Trent Robinson after games last year, and they were winning but they were winning ugly." "They'll be top 4 because they play consistently its just whether they peak at the right time again." Although the Roosters will be tested by the loss of hooker Jake Friend, Lockyer's adamant the tri-colours won't skip a beat and hold off a second placed Melbourne side still trying to figure out its strengths after Slater's exit.The Storm have won six from seven games in the first couple of months of the 2019 campaign, yet Lockyer says it's clear the Melbourne isn't the same side as last year.
