Sunnyside Beach North has been a clothing-optional beach since the 1980s, but Mornington Peninsula Shire is under pressure to change that. 9News

is deeply unpopular among locals, according to a survey conducted by the local council.

But a general survey conducted by the council found the current rules are broadly popular, especially among locals.residents living close to the beach were in favour of the beach remaining clothing optional. A Facebook group named "Keep Sunnyside Beach Clothing Optional" accessed the survey results using a freedom of information request.

According to council, the pandemic lockdown reduced the number of nude bathers to the beach, while clothed locals spent more time there because it was in their 5km limit.
