Former Carbine Club president and treasurer Mike Wisby is facing allegations he stole more than $120,000 from the Tasmanian branch.

The former president and treasurer of an exclusive "sports-oriented luncheon club" has been charged with stealing more than $120,000 from the Tasmanian branch.Court documents allege he moved more than $120,000 from the club's account into his ownDocuments filed in the Hobart Magistrates Court late last week allege Mike Wisby, 74, used his access to the Carbine Club of Tasmania's systems, to transfer money from the club's account to his own.

"It is a fact that the two men who fathered the idea of the Club, and the other 16 men who made up the foundation membership, never envisaged that a sports-oriented luncheon club would develop as it did," the site says. The club takes its name from a racehorse but says its interests extend well beyond "the boundaries of the turf".

It boasts a variety of prominent sports and business names, including Allen Aylett, Eddie McGuire and Peggy O'Neal.There are 15 clubs across the world, including one in Tasmania, founded in 1982, of which Mr Wisby was briefly president.
