Lawyers for Bruce Lehrmann, Network Ten and Lisa Wilkinson will return to court on Wednesday amid a fight over who will pay for the legal costs of the former Liberal staffer’s failed defamation suit.
“As a result of the inconclusive criminal trial, Mr Lehrmann remains a man who has not been convicted of any offence, but he has now been found, by the civil standard of proof, to have engaged in a great wrong,” Lee said.Lehrmann’s ACT Supreme Court trial for Higgins’ sexual assault was aborted in 2022 owing to juror misconduct and he did not stand trial for a second time owing to concerns about Higgins’ mental health.
Ten has argued Lehrmann should be ordered to pay all of its costs of the case on an indemnity basis, which covers a higher proportion of a costs bill than the standard order.
