Two micro-parties wanting to legalise marijuana and adopt daylight saving now have a voice on the crossbench of Western Australia's Upper House, despite receiving just a fraction of the primary vote. They received 2 and 0.2 per cent of the primary vote, respectivelyThe Legalise Marijuana WA Party's Sophia Moermond has secured a seat in the Legislative Council's South West region from 2 per cent of votes.

It is possible due to preference harvesting deals among micro-parties, where parties take turns in preferencing each other high in one region to boost their percentage of the vote.

Brilliant system. Time for optional preferential voting?

🤣 daylight savings party!

charlottehamlyn bengubana fnd_alex Without introducing proportional voting Australia cannot safeguard its democracy nor proceed on many important policy decisions

We need an overhall of the preferences. I'd suggest it says people are sick of the major parties crap.

Curtains either going to fade or go yellow...

Decriminalise canabis at the very least. I don't smoke it but I've never seen any form of violent behavior from anyone that does. Many people I've known that do use it, smoke it as a sleeping sedative. Good on them I say.

Lol April Fools I think!

Both of them will do little more than collect their $300k salary, allowance & super package for 4 years With Labor having an overwhelming majority in both Houses, cross bench parties will play an even more irrelevant role in parliament than the major parties

Don’t legalize cannabis

Let's see if they can deliver on their policies !!! MarijuanaParty

Upper house is typically stocked with fruitcakes and halfwits

Yeah legalise it now after taking children off their parents for smoking pot. You disgust me.

Wow

Legalise Cannabis wins second seat in shock WA Upper House election resultThe Legalise Cannabis WA Party secure a second seat in the Legislative Council, with candidate Brian Walker winning the sixth seat in the East Metropolitan Region. The problem entrenched elites have with legalising drugs is that their mates in policing, the law, corrections, insurance, & related industries have their revenue streams reduced. Moreover, support services are run by ‘lefties’ (who aren’t their mates). They’ll resist muchly. Who is behind this 'industry'? For those hoping or expecting cannabis to be legalised soon in WA as a result of this, you’ll be disappointed. Labor has full control of both houses, so unless they want it legalised, it won’t happen within the next four years.

New WA daylight saving MP Wilson Tucker reveals he is living in the USAfter winning a seat in WA's Upper House with just 0.2 per cent of the vote, Daylight Saving Party leader Wilson Tucker confirms he is currently living in the US city of Seattle. Well in his defence, Seattle is also in WA. Maybe he got confused? So? As a comparison point, Scomo is convinced Hawaii is part of Australia as he keeps telling us he ONLY holidays in Australia. Hoping the fact that the candidate whose party wanted to change its name to National Liberals (to get more votes) wasn't living in WA is enough to disqualify him.

South Australia one step closer to legalising euthanasia, bill passed in Upper HouseAfter 17 attempts in more than 25 years, Voluntary Assisted Dying is one step closer to being legalised in South Australia after a bill passed the upper house. I don't need a law to say I can end my life. It's my choice. Fucking ridiculous, it’s absurdly archaic thinking on the governments part that this isn’t legalised all over the damn country already.
