NSW Corrections Minister contemplates appealing the overturning of Bassam Hamzy's conviction for assaulting a prison officer as strike action causes backlog in the courts.

New South Wales Corrections Minister David Elliott has sought urgent legal advice on whether to appeal against the quashing of Bassam Hamzy's conviction for assaulting a prison officer.Officers subsequently went on strike, saying the decision impacted their safetyThe judgement last month overturned the conviction against Hamzy for an assault of an officer in Goulburn jail.

"Even if the Director of Public Prosecutions does not appeal, or an appeal is unsuccessful, then a re-elected Liberals and Nationals Government will amend the legislation to ensure any loophole is addressed and the legislation is strengthened, meaning officers will enjoy the full protection of the law and their safety is enhanced."

Hire disabled people more then the 2% they currently recruit - disabled people would be hard workers and would not strike, would be happy o be enrolled

“Whether to appeal”?

Once again criminals have all the rights. Can’t offend the convicted Muslim terrorist wannabe.

Just hang him already.

Another case of someone who doesn't respect Western secular democracies using those freedoms against those who provided them.

Doubters’ outcry over Pell verdict disrespectful to jury, legal systemIt is extraordinarily disrespectful to the jury members who, after weighing all the evidence, listening to all the testimony, came to the conclusion that he was guilty | Peter_Fitz Peter_Fitz Jury’s are usually made up of suburbia slobs and morons who wouldn’t survive if Darwinism was in place. Often poorly educated and simpletons. This is why barristers choose the jury’s they choose - so they can manipulate the verdict they want out of these simpletons on the jury. Peter_Fitz I am not defending George Pell...I dont even know the evidence against him - but what are you saying? The courts never get it wrong ever? Are the courts an infallible judicial system that will always get it right? Peter_Fitz So you get 12 people ,which have had media bias against Pell thrown down their throats for 30 years and expect them to come up with a judgement that isn’t biased
