Leading Australian philanthropists unite to underwrite arts think tank | LindaMorrissmh

Australia's leading philanthropists have united to commit millions of dollars to put arts and culture at the forefront of the nation's pandemic recovery.

The significantly expanded consortium was announced Monday amid simmering frustration in the arts and culture sector that governments were too slow to react to the devastation caused by the pandemic shutdowns. The sector remains exposed and vulnerable in the wake of Australia's first recession in 29 years.

Weighing in with multi-million dollar support over the next three years are The Myer Foundation, The Sidney Myer Fund, Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, Neilson Foundation, Spinifex Trust, Keir Foundation, Minderoo Foundation, Aranday Foundation and the Besen Family Foundation. Board members include Carriagework's chair Cass O'Connor, chief executive of First Nations Media Catherine Liddle, and the former head of Create Infrastructure, Craig Limkin, now Tasmania's deputy secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and art collector and communicator Sue Cato.A New Approach was established in 2018 with the support of the Myer, Tim Fairfax Family and Keir foundations and has been successful in pushing for a parliamentary inquiry into arts and culture.
