An advocate for constitutional reform in Australia warns a northern Victorian MP has potentially had his political freedoms impeded, after he was suspended from parliament for refusing to show proof of vaccination.

Senior Lecturer in Law at Charles Sturt University, Dr Bede Harris, said he understood the move to suspend parliamentarians who refused to show proof of vaccination was unprecedented."So many different countries have taken so many different approaches.

The High Court has held that an implied freedom of political communication exists as an indispensable part of the system of representative and responsible government created by the Constitution. "I understand that Mr Quilty and the other MPs have been suspended until the second sitting day of 2022. Mr Quilty said he did not regret his stance, even though it meant he would be excluded from parliamentary proceedings.

Law expert questions suspension of Victorian MP from parliament for refusing to show vaccination proof. Lawyers trying to line their pockets at the expense of the public. Get the jab or get out of politics.

If laws are not imposed equally for everyone, then it’s not a democracy … if I have to my vaccination certificate everywhere I go, so does this muppet!!

Everyone has to follow the rules to keep everyone safe. Why is this so hard for “intelligent” people to believe it?

I would agree, our so.called elected officials under our constitution are band from attending and voting. Also shows the the 4 are out of touch given the high vaccination rate amongst voters. Like 16 almost 90% 1st dose

Of course it was a liberal, I didn't need to check after all.

Consequences for actions?

Tim Quilty is a Liberal MP and if he does not understand the importance of being vaccinated then he is unfit to serve as the representative of anybody let alone a whole constituency. If he refuses vaccination he should resign. We don't want conspiracy theorists in our parliament.

we have heard of plenty of law experts in last 24 months and i dont think any of got up in court. Only winners is the law experts
