South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell is set to sign a two-year, $1.75 million extension to remain at the club until the end of 2023 | MichaelChammas

South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell is set to sign a two-year, $1.75 million extension to remain at the club until the end of 2023.

Mitchell was set to earn in excess of $900,000 a year in 2022 and 2023, but his new deal is set to reflect last week’s NRL announcement, which saw the sport finalise a revised collective bargaining agreement with a six per cent reduction in the salary cap to deal with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.Mitchell was in sublime touch in the weeks before he suffered a hamstring injury against Parramatta saw him miss the club’s finals campaign.

Yeo and Nathan Cleary are the frontrunners to replace James Tamou as Penrith captain, with the Penrith lock set to be rewarded for his 2020 campaign with a significant increase in his extension with the club.

Mitchell: I'm taking a standSouth Sydney Rabbitohs fullback Latrell Mitchell explains why he wants to put a stop to online bullying after receiving racial abuse on social media Poor Latrell .... so oppressed 🥴 Not his greatest fan but I support him on this like I would for any human being that gets racially abused. This is 2021 and these racist c****ts still exist. Racism is horrible, good on him. I do wonder though if this is part of why he can be so volatile? His actions for the ban were terrible, delib elbow to the head, lashing out with boot studs to a head (luckily missed). And all of his past volatility. Attention divertion timing?
