Australian businessman Lachlan Murdoch has reportedly splashed out more than $200 million on a California mansion, breaking the state's real estate record.
The son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch is said to be the new owner of the four hectare Chartwell Estate in Bel-Air, which was last owned by Univision chair A. Jerrold Perenchio, and featured in the credits of sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies". Before that, a portion of the French chateau-style estate belonged to Ronald and Nancy Reagan, which Mr Perenchio razed to make way for sprawling gardens.Despite being priced as high as $500 million as a pocket listing, the eldest Murdoch son is said to have sealed the deal for around a cool $215 million, the LA Times reported.
The estate boasts a Gatsby-esque ballroom, 18 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms, and a custom wine vault that can store up to 12,000 bottles.Lachlan, Rupert and James Murdoch. There is also a secret tunnel that runs from the basement, beneath the house and out to the 20-metre swimming pool.
