Labor will sharpen its attacks on the federal government's $70 billion wage subsidy scheme as voters of Eden-Monaro prepare to head to the polls this weekend | rharris334

Labor will sharpen its attacks on the federal government's $70 billion wage subsidy scheme on Tuesday as voters of Eden-Monaro, in south-west NSW, prepare to head to the polls this weekend.

Mr Chalmers will continue to heap pressure on the government to release a review into JobKeeper, completed last week by Treasury Secretary Steven Kennedy, instead of "keeping Australians in the dark" until after the by-election.About 4800 businesses and organisations in Eden-Monaro, employing about 18,000 workers, are estimated to be currently accessing the JobKeeper wage subsidy of $1500 a fortnight, paid by the federal government.

The scheme ends on September 27 but could be extended for those sectors most affected by COVID-19. Mr Kennedy handed the report to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg late on Friday, four days ahead of his deadline."Businesses are already laying off workers because of the uncertainty this delay is creating.
