'What are you afraid of?': Assistant treasurer under fire over Labor's election commitments and cost of living

Help keep family & friends informed by sharing this articleAssistant Treasurer Stephen Jones has come under fire on Q+A over not only the nation's housing affordability crisis but also accusations of not honouring election commitments on refugees.

"We inherited contracts, we've renewed them, we will ensure that there continues to be an offshore processing facility as a part of our border protection policies, but it is our objective to ensure that there is nobody there," the Member for Whitlam said. "What we've seen in this government after this election is that they just threatened that something change, like the photo that prime minister took with the Biloela family, and that became a national celebration, but at the same time there are hundreds of people in detention for years.

Mr Jones defended the government before deflecting that the timeline was a question for Immigration Minister Andrew Giles."There is in excess of 19,000 people who are currently on temporary protection visas, we are working through the process to ensure that all of those have permanent settlement.

If he thinks that Australia is racist and unfair, why doesn't he go back to whatever s******* of a third world country he came from.

Jones and Boochani. Words fail me. Battle of the nobodies.

“This is the recession we had to have” (the worlds greatest treasurer) 🥳😳😐🫣

Reckon there would be a lot less homeless if all the homes weren't filled up with refugees. Perhaps figure out how to house Australians first before sheltering others.

Why is this a story? It's pitiful for the abc to ignore key facts just to create drama! The abc knows that the lib government hid key economic data from Labor before the election an that the current world financial crisis has made it impossible to keep some pre-election promises!

Terrorism

Seriously after the Election day SMS The Boats Are Coming. So the guy who got knocked back for mostly being an asshole is criticizing Australia. No Grudge or chip on his Shoulder LOL. ABC working hard again to Polarize the Community when his problem is with the last admin. Lame

This lying corrupt Labor government are an absolute disaster. All they do is pose for photo ops and talk BS. They are destroying our country and millions of peoples lives with their cost of living crisis, record inflation and constant interest rate rises.

Lidia Thorpe’s resignation from Greens makes passing Voice ‘harder’ for LaborFormer Victorian Liberal president Michael Kroger says Lidia Thorpe’s resignation from the Greens makes it “harder” for the Labor Party to pass the Voice to Parliament legislation. “I think it’s harder for Labor, particularly if she campaigns against the Voice, which you’d expect her to,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “I mean, this is why she resigned from the Greens. “She’s in favour of a treaty, she’s in favour of truth-telling commission, and she’s in favour of reparations, and ultimately she’s in favour of a separate sovereign nation.” Who cares what the king of the losers thinks

Labor has been delivering ‘positive and practical changes’Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the government has been delivering “positive and practical changes that the Australian people voted for”. Selfies and essays aren't positive and practical change. Not much has changed, still have: - cost of living crisis - no cost of living relief - energy costs & supply crisis - essential services still starved of funding. On your watch: - rampant inflation - rising interest rates A few tweeks to the price of scripts, and giving money to the 'arts'. Not much real substance unless the Australians you are talking about are elite billionaires. He conveniently forgot or is hoping the people who voted for them forgot all the election promises he failed to deliver on. What we got was 7.3% inflation and higher power bills and a cost of living crisis. “positive and practical changes that the Australian people voted for'🤔
