On Tuesday night, the Albanese government presented its federal budget with back-to-back surpluses, $7.8 billion to assist with cost-of-living pressures and $22b for the government’s flagship Future Made in Australia policy starring for Labor.that will earn approval in the short-term, with tax cuts and a $300 energy rebate for all, but lacks long-term solutions to tackle inflation and cost-of-living pressures.
“I think there’s a more sensible way of doing it, but again, it’s an election commitment, right?” he told the First Edition host. “They’re trying to buy themselves an interest rate cut before the election and pretend everything’s okay whereas it’s not,” he said. “So every year, prospectively now, under a Labor government they go into more and more and more debt and that is going to be a bill ultimately that’s paid for by Australian families, small businesses and taxpayers generally.”
