Greens leader Adam Bandt has failed in a bid to have the House of Representatives officially recognise the state of Palestine.

The Albanese Government has accused the Greens of trying to exploit the war in Israel for votes after the party's motion calling on the House of Representatives to “recognise the state of Palestine ” failed spectacularly.

“We are seeing right now a human engineered famine that is taking a toll on a civilian population that amounts to collective punishment of these people.”“It is time for countries including Australia to step in and do something, just as other countries have made it a priority to recognise the state of Palestine,” Mr Bandt said.

The Greens official party position calls for:"The State of Israel to end its ongoing genocide in Gaza and comply fully with the orders of the International Court of Justice".
