Nick Kyrgios's blow up shows why being a ball kid is a thankless task

Despite ball kids being a ubiquitous presence at tennis tournaments around the world, the remit of their obligation to help the players is unclear. There, French player Elliot Benchetrit had his request for a ball girl to peel a banana for him refused.

Speaking to CNN, Benchetrit said the umpire, John Blom, told him the ball girl was not his slave and that he should do it himself.

WRONG! Nick cares about the ball kid and didn’t hand him a bloody towel

If you got your facts right which I know is hard for the media, then you would know that Nick was making sure the ball boy didnt touch his towell with his blood on it

Sensationalised and WRONG. Apologise and then withdraw this lie. You lot are getting worse

NickKyrgios was totally in the right here. Nothing but respect for him for looking out the ball kid. The umpire was being the d*ck here, not Kyrgios.

This is click bait headlining at its worst. And you are using and abusing a human being NickKyrgios to get clicks. Shame on you . I knew you had regressed but this is low. Apologise to Nick and change the headline.

Wow, the world is desperate for Kyrgios clickbait blow up. Fact is, he hasnt put a foot wrong all summer. Quite the opposite. Tomorrow might well be another day. But he is looking more and more like an Aus sport 'hero' in the making. Really hope he has turned the corner.

change the headline, show some respect to Kyrgios. He was protecting and respecting the ball kid!

Who the fck is writing the headlines? Shameful

Misleading headline, ABC. NickKyrgios

🤡

So disappointed in this headline

How stupid and click-baity of you. Nick had blood puring from his hand. He quite rightly didnt want the ballkid touching his towel.

That’s not true. I guess you didn’t watch the match.

Really poor journalism Just wrong and am glad thousands saw what happened live on wwos AusOpen2020

You mean when he was given a time violation because he looked out for a ball kid’s safety by not letting the kid touch his bloodied towel?

Go and get fucked

ABC this is the lowest that a media organisation has gone with a headline involving Nick Kyrgios. He does the right thing and you come up with this load of garbage headline

In my opinion, the ball kids shouldn't touch the towel at all. All that sweat etc accumulated on t h e towel, it's putrid

What a terrible piece of journalism! Any wonder Nick is wary of the media

has gone tabloid like the rest of them. Australian media has forgotten how to report the facts without the shock and awe headlines. Pathetic

You guys are the worst. Try harder.

What an absolute fucked headline for an article that is completely incorrect.

Delet

I’m a huge fan of OurABC but this is disgraceful. you really should delete this tweet. rethink respect

More misleading headlines!

He was helping the ball kid, the umpire was wrong. I know he’s a pain but on this occasion he didn’t do anything wrong

Except the towel in question had Nick's blood on it. I wouldn't let a young kid be unnecessarily exposed to someone blood. Try reporting the facts.

They clickbaited the heading. It was posted under a much milder heading. Le sigh.

This is total BS

The article is fairly matter of fact, but that headline is way off the mark. Definitely a sub-editor fail 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thank you for listening and changing the headline on this piece 😊

Bullshit.

You're wrong. He was looking out for the ballboy. What has happened to you people at the ABC. Don't you care about your reputation? Thankless task? They love it, you fools.

A deliberate shit article chasing a public reaction.

FakeNews NotMyABC This is a journo that clearly didn't see this event but wrote a whole article about it...

Grow up ffs.

NO! stop with the click bait headlines you do yourself a disservice with every one ABCmediawatch

Do you need clicks this badly? Feel good about joining the NK pile on like a sellout?

Why are people coommenting without actually reading the article? Very strange.

The headline would have different if it was Federer, who can never do any wrong for the media.

You’re better than this ABC News, what a stupid and inaccurate clickbait headline.

He was doing the right thing and looking out for the welfare of the ball kid and you frame it in this negative light? Guess the black man must always be portrayed as the angry black man , no matter the circumstances. Racist much? NickKyrgios pay no mind to these racist hacks.

this is making something out of nothing with respect to the ball boys. Kyrgios over reacted to the umpire’s decision otherwise everything was fine. I admire Kyrgios’ concern for the ball boy!

This headline is misleading

Delete

Delete this.

I said yesterday that if NickKyrgios lost, this would be all the media would be talking about. Turns out, he gets it even if he wins AND he just happened to do the right thing on this occasion and he's still copping it. Can he do anything right?

Not a blow up at all. He had words with the umpire over the incident but he certainly didn’t blow up. Behaved quite sensibly

You need to look up the meaning of blow up.... and look at the game replay.

He actually demonstrated some level headed behaviour.

Nick is right. He did the logical thing

What a deeply unnecessary hook. How about “Nadal whacking a ball into a child’s head shows why being a ball kid is a thankless task”

Bugger off ABC what a useless article, someone in your office of bureaucracy is so bored that they had to write this good for nothing, petty rubbish. Who seriously cares

Becoming a Kyrgios fan gradually. He has more common sense than the stupid media.

ABC, YOU JUST INTERRUPTED A LIVE PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY BROADCAST - NECESSARY TO PREVENT A VIRAL PANDEMIC - FOR TENNIS RERUNS!?! WTF Gavin Morris, Paul Kennedy?! BradHazzard, DavidElliottMP - Emergency rules need to apply. Seize the station.

There is a difference between sweat and blood. And there should be a blood rule with extra time IMO

Rare ... but I'm with Kyrgios this time.

I'm not a NK fan, but this ain't it chief.

Are you serious ? This article absolutely stinks. Nick was looking out for the health and safety of the ball kids

You got the wrong end of the stick - or towel - this time. NickKyrgios managed his legendary temper admirably; he did the correct thing preventing the ballboy from touching a bloodied towel and yet you describe him as having a 'blow up'? Try 'Kyrgios cares for kids' AusOpen

because he didn't want the ball kid handling a towel covered in blood?

He wanted to make sure the kid didn't touch his blood...

Handling balls while on their knees has always been a thankless job

No-one cares about this potty mouth.
