Sky News host Chris Smith says a new online petition calling for the relocation of Australia’s koala population to New Zealand “takes the prize for absolute green stupidity”.

The wildlife advocacy group, ‘Koala Relocation Society,’ says the iconic Australian animal should be relocated to eucalyptus plantations in New Zealand to ensure their survival. It comes as Environment Minister Sussan Ley had warned on Monday koalas could be classified as endangered after taking an extraordinary hit in the bushfire crisis.

Speaking from Port Macquarie Koala Hospital Ms Ley and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced a $50 million fund to help affected wildlife recover. "Now for starters, the words koala and relocation are an anathema,” Mr Smith said. “Koalas don't relocate well at all". “Of all the balmy ideas floated through this bushfire period, the trophy goes to... a mob of complete dingbats," he said.

Ridiculous idea, from ridiculous fanatics !

chrissmithonair Why don’t the Greens relocate?

The big debate.

Put the Koalas in first class while your at it!

Surely people realise the koala has specific varieties of Eucalyptus that it consumes and those trees do not exist in New Zealand 😕

Gum Trees in NZ

We should send the our muppets instead...

Ask them how much they love our possums other than in soup

Like the NZ possums they will turn em into slippers & socks !

Lol but burning the country to the ground that's ok.... ffs

Sky where stupidity is rampant !!

Stupidity is listening to a sky News host on any topic involving science

And he would know all about stupidity. I assume he has a mirror when he shaves in the morning.

And the Possums. The snakes. Noahs Ark 2. 😂😂😂

RobCoyte Australian Brush Tail Possums introduced to NZ in 1837 for the fur trade - now a HUGE PEST - Just like The Greens! Oh & BTW koalas eat GUM LEAVES which are not native to NZ.

chris smith sexually harasses women

I heard JoshFrydenberg is actually selling the koalas to boost the surplus. Then he will move on to children

The most stupid idea so far!

No Smith, your the actual stupid one using the term Green as if its a bad word.

OMG!! No words...

July 2019 Animals including koalas & kangaroos could be culled in parts of South Aust where high population numbers are damaging the landscape.A report from has recommended the environment minister declare koalas, kangaroos, fur seals and corellas overabundant in some areas.🙄

The Left are bent on destroying Australia in every possible way.

LNP interference pattern detected. Distract, deflect, deny.

I didn't know who Chris Smith was, so I looked him up. Ummm should someone with such a background be on this channel. Wow, just wow.

Must have been a tuff call with so many Green stupidity options?

They could learn to eat fern leaves surely 🤦🏻

Chris Smith takes prize as biggest newscorpaus ignoramus during this bushfirecrisis , some of the verbal diarrhoea escaping that thing he calls a mouth, but we know it’s his arsehole, has been nothing short of breathtaking in its stupidity bushfirecrisis

Told you the Greens are no good outside of the coffee zones auspol

The prize for absolute stupidity goes to Chris Smith for hilariously declaring Scott Morrison the 'best' Prime Minister Australia has ever had! Can you believe it?! 😂

😂😂😂

Even conservative and far right wingers all know Chris Smith is full of lies. Australians can see through bootlickers like Chris Smith a 1000k off. Why waste tv on him? Put him in a community hall.

Who?

anything anything but talk about THE ACTUAL PROBLEM from the Sky 'News' Grubs

Why? Give them to the country that has possums as a pest and made a species of giant birds extinct.

Its Miranda Divine

This 'Koala Relocation Society' apparently doesn't exist. Looks to be a complete hoax - something that has escaped Chris Smith and in their eagerness to find 'greenies' to tar and feather. Which makes a mockery of them as any kind of news organisation.

But isnt climatechange world wide New Zealand being that close to Australia surely will be the next to burn due to climate change. 🤔🤭🥴🤪🤪🔥

No the award for absolute stupidity goes to this lot ...,

I’m not buying it. I think its a crock of shit from a wingnutter from SKY.

I would have thought causing those fires was way more stupid, Chris.

Do we send the food over by plane or ship !!!!!

You can't just relocate fauna from one country to another these days, all sorts of problems could kick off. And what are the koalas going to eat? No abundance of eucalyptus trees in lush green New Zealand.

The kiwis

While you are at it you might want to bash this... The lengths people will go for wildlife. Like using a very expensive Helicopter method to feed Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby colonies. Is that green stupidity as well?

Sky news with the hard hitting progressive journalism here. Just amazing how they keep uncovering these national interest stories.

what sorry bears dont eat kiwi fruit

Agree 100% with peak stupidity 😀

Thought our koalas needed eucalyptus leaves to thrive, not Jacinda's halal meat.

Im sure the Koalas are having a great time here. Being incinerated, their habitat destroyed. A PM that wont even fork out for a waterbomber....as if its his fuckin money If I was a Koala id be applying for political asylum to get away from a shithouse backwater run by imbeciles

Bushfires may affect Australia's AAA credit rating | Sky News AustraliaCredit rating agency Moody’s fears Australia’s credit rating could be affected if bushfire seasons become more severe.\n\nIn a statement Moody’s said: “Taking into account both the direct costs and indirect loss of revenue, we estimate that the cost of the bushfires will reduce Australia’s general government’s fiscal balance overall by around 0.1 per cent of GDP per year in the next two fiscal years”.\n\n“More frequent and severe natural disasters are likely to result in rising and recurring costs, testing the capacity of state and federal governments to pay the debts”.\n\nMoody’s still maintains its AAA credit rating for Australia, New South Wales and Victoria but could revise its assessment if natural disasters do become more severe.\n\nRival agency Standard & Poor’s however is more optimistic, saying affected states will be able to service the bushfire recovery costs and their credit ratings would not be affected.\n \nImage: Getty\n Typical bloody banker Ohh the irony.
