Glitches in the NAPLAN online platform have caused dropouts for many students during the assessments, raising concerns about the validity of this year's national tests | pallavisinghal

Teachers and parents say they are "dismayed" at glitches in the NAPLAN online platform that are causing dropouts for many students during the assessments, raising concerns about the validity of this year's national tests.

"It'll drop out for as long as 30 seconds, it's happening multiple times for some students and the timer doesn't stop, it's not a sound testing condition at all."Other students were unable to log on, lost their work during dropouts or were told to re-sit the writing test a day later, giving them time to consider responses, according to the Australian Education Union.

The NSW Parents and Citizens Federation said it had told ACARA ahead of the tests "that many schools lack adequate IT infrastructure and reliable internet coverage ... and that results of the online and paper tests may not be compared in a statistically valid way, which would make the reported results meaningless".

"The technology and logistics of a national online project of this size are highly complex, involving national testing authorities, states and territories and schools, and the cooperation and assistance of all involved in appreciated." "NESA has received feedback from schools today that testing is going more smoothly than yesterday and we are monitoring this closely."

pallavisinghal Nothing like a HB pencil and some paper!

pallavisinghal Can you just imagine how stressful it would be! So f-ing cruel! What a sh-t idea! Hands up who thought it would work? Idiots! Even disregarding the ‘big picture’ network problems, many schools wi-fi and computer set-ups are way below par, especially public schools.

pallavisinghal What an absolute clusterfk

pallavisinghal As if this was not going to happen

pallavisinghal STEM doing so well in this country as evidenced by this among many other epic failures; testing 'buggy' tech on the kids is a bit low; 'move fast, break things!'

pallavisinghal We really do tech well in this country, don't we. 🤦‍♀️

One-third of WA students sitting online NAPLAN tests hit by 'unfair' computer glitchesThe State Government reveals 40,000 WA secondary students had difficulty connecting to online NAPLAN tests yesterday. ...back to pencil and paper; technology here is a joke... No one should be required to rely on an internet connection in Australia, that's just insane! My son is in year five and said some kids had up to ten disconnections during the test. He 'only' had four.

Glitches plague controversial online NAPLAN tests | Sky News AustraliaSchools have expressed frustration after online NAPLAN testing glitches interrupted students’ tests.\n\nIssues reported include difficulty logging on to the literacy and numeracy test’s website and relentless disconnection throughout.\n\nMore than one million students, in years 3, 5, 7 and 9, will sit the trial this week.\n\nAbout half of schools will participate in online testing after last year's trial was lauded as a success.\n\n\n\n\n auspol an achievement of the Morrison government? So many schools hate being measured and held to account! It is not only schools who sometime have difficulty 'logging on'! A very very weak excuse. And 'relentless' disconnection? Pull the other one. NBN can't handle it?

Students run down with anxiety over NAPLAN testing | Sky News AustraliaHundreds of thousands of students will begin NAPLAN tests from Tuesday, but researchers have found the literacy and numeracy trial is loading kids with anxiety.\n\nA University of Queensland study found the testing methods, including stripping classrooms of displays and teachers reading from scripts, is stressing students enough to make them question their future abilities to buy a house, find a job, and enter secondary or tertiary education.\n\nResearchers recommend parents remind their children there are no consequences if they perform poorly, rather than pulling them out of the test. \n\n\n\n\n Which is likely the teachers doing Poor little preciouses! How are they ever going to learn how to cope with the pressures of the real world? I dare you say that to a bunch of kids doing NAPLAN whilst it crashes online today. NAPLANfail keyboardwarrior

'I can see a disaster': Principals concerned about online NAPLAN testAbout 50 per cent of Australian schools are expected to take part in NAPLAN Online this week. But there are concerns technical glitches could disadvantage some students. Incompetent Coalition government morons cannot get anything right...ffs thank goodness we get to kick them out this week As the organiser of NAPLAN at my school, I have next to no confidence that it will be without tech issues. We have been provided no contingency measures. It doesn’t help that they want students do the tests in a certain order... .... with no regard to how difficult it is to rearrange tests for absent students, etc. Nuts!

Principals concerned about online NAPLAN testAustralian principals are worried technical problems could plague the roll-out of the computerised NAPLAN test this week. Why not? I mean, what's wrong with it if it does go 'digital', everything else is and kids in kindergarten are using tablets now instead of books. It wouldn't matter how they were done. People would still complain.

NAPLAN kicks off with some white screens but 'smooth' first dayStudents across Australia are sitting the NAPLAN tests over the next 10 days, with about 50 per cent sitting the tests online and the rest using pen and paper. pallavisinghal_ I hope you mean either 'was' smooth or went 'smoothly' pallavisinghal_ my son lost 15 mins to NAPLAN connection issues today - intermittently frozen screen, but the timer kept ticking. The whole class has issues ! How can they be fairly marked when they didn’t get 100% of the allocated time to answer ? pallavisinghal_ Utter rubbish. !! this was not teh experience of large numbers of students!! Do some research around Aus on what happened to large numbers of kids!
